SENIOR LEVEL COACHES
Greg DiNatale

GREG DiNATALE
Milford, CT | gdinat@mac.com
renegade kettlebell specialist

Entering his twentieth year as a trainer and performance coach Greg has always approached his work with individuals and teams with the same goals: to improve the quality of their lives and help develop people and lineups that will not quit. The scope of his training ranges from preparing athletes of all ages to executives, entrepreneurs to stay at home parents and everyone in between.

Mr. DiNatale is currently the fitness director for The Fitness Edge/Edge Fitness Clubs, a group of six health clubs in Connecticut known for their outstanding service and personal training. He is responsible for the recruiting, hiring, training and coaching of a team of over 75 trainers. This team has developed into one of the finest in the industry and set a standard that most clubs and training centers cannot match through a commitment to constant and never-ending improvement and care for the client. As a result he has become a highly regarded consultant for club owners and directors looking to take their training departments to the next level.

As an elite college athlete he captained a small division 2 school (which has since dropped to division 3) to a division 1, top-25 ranking in the sport of volleyball. His disappointment in the training methodology used at his school is what led to his desperate search for the most effective system to improve sports performance. After digging through whatever information he could find, he finally found the answer he was looking for in Renegade Training. Unfortunately, he did not find it until a number of years after he graduated. And while it was a little too late to help his playing career he has used this as motivation and is committed to delivering this groundbreaking approach to volleyball players and other athletes at all stages and ages of development, from beginners to the professional who plays for pay.

The father of two children, he is also dedicated to improving the current disastrous state of health that exists among our young people. Focusing on fun, easy to implement strategies designed to keep kids moving, laughing, and challenged he can be seen in the Renegade DVD "Children's Fitness, Part 1", which kicks off the Renegade child development series.

Erin Learoyd

ERIN LEAROYD
FT. LAUDERDALE, FL | erinlearoyd@fitnesstogether.com
renegade kettlebell specialist

Erin has been an avid athlete throughout her entire life. In high school, Erin was a part of varsity softball and soccer teams that made 4 consecutive State Tournament appearances and won a record-setting 11 straight State Championships, respectively.

In college, Erin began a degree in Athletic Training and often found herself on the sidelines rather than on the field. Despite the excellent educational experience and wealth of hands-on knowledge available to her, the subsequent deconditioning led to two lumbar disc herniations, excess fluid in the facet joints, and degenerative disc disease, which were diagnosed in 2003. Rest, physical therapy, prescription pain medications, and a spinal nerve block each had their own unfortunate side effects and did nothing to lessen the pain or improve Erin’s condition.

Finally, in 2005, Erin began a routine of steady, consistent, low-impact exercises a few times a week. She gradually progressed herself into better and better shape and was slowly able to reduce her pain. In early 2006, upon discovering Renegade Training, she was able to take her workouts and rehabilitation to the next level, and she has never looked back. Erin can execute many lifts, generating an extreme amount of force, that were not thought possible for someone with her injuries.

Erin’s higher education includes attending Ithaca College where she earned a BS in Exercise Science with a concentration in Athletic Training. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and currently manages and trains at Fitness Together, a private fitness studio in Cambridge, MA. Erin has a diverse background in athletic participation, athletic training, physical therapy, injury prevention and rehabilitation, personal training, and strength and conditioning for athletes.

The Fitness Edge, CT | 2pugs@snet.net
renegade kettlebell specialist

Kerry has been training for the past 10 years. She holds certifications in personal training from ISSA, Renegade Training, and is certified through AAFA to teach a variety of classes.
She got into the fitness lifestyle at the age of 15 after a car accident that changed her life, in which she suffered a broken neck and the Drs. said she would never be able to do any kind of sports related activities. So she started weight training and keeping a lifestyle of health and fitness.

At the age of 32 she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had major surgery. For 2 years she was unable to workout and went through depression, and a weight gain of 70 lbs. And after getting a good look at herself in the mirror one day she said enough is enough and went back to the gym. After a year of working on herself she decided to go into training to help out people who have had the same struggles that she has had, partly because she can relate not only on a physical level but a mental one too.
Kerry is presently employed at the Women’s Fitness Edge and is the volunteer trainer for the Mens Special Olympics softball teams from Southbury Training School in Southbury CT.

Matt Slaymaker

MATT SLAYMAKER
North Liberty, Iowa | theslaymakers@southslope.net
renegade kettlebell specialist

In grade school and high school Matt was a “husky” kid, not the jock who was gifted with abilities. But he had one thing – desire! He practiced and played all sorts of sports, and cannot remember many days which he wasn’t playing some sport after school. Rain or shine, snow or heat, it didn’t matter – Matt was out playing. When he went to college, he missed the practices he had every day through high school and began to get into “lifting weights”. Matt sustained an injury during the summer prior to my freshman year of college that ended his baseball career and with that started his career in coaching others. Matt had surgery on his left shoulder to repair a shoulder separation in the fall of 1991 and that kicked off his interest in the human body and its performance. Matt attended the University of Iowa and studied Exercise Science, during that time I worked as a personal trainer at a local gym. When he graduated in 1996 Matt was sought out by many in the area to be their trainer. He worked as trainer, a gym manager, then a fitness director and finally a business owner. Then an equipment manufacturer hired him to help “develop” new equipment, but in reality they had me sell machines he didn’t believe in. That was it; Matt was done with the fitness business. He didn’t want clients who just wanted to say they trained with me (and not put forth any work to get results) and he didn’t want to write phony testimonials for equipment that he didn’t believe in. Matt moved onto fixing machines, another one of my passions.

That was all prior to me meeting John Davies; Mr. Davies reignited Matt's passion for helping others and making their life better. Over the past 6 years Matt has trained himself Renegade style and has attempted to learn all he can about the Renegade system of training. Now, he still work full-time fixing machines, but is striving towards owning his own training studio. But, now he is a Certified Renegade Trainer and is ready to guide as many people as possible to fulfill their dreams, whether that dream is to be more active so they can enjoy their children or grandchildren or if they want to become a professional athlete! In addition to training clients, Matt is now beginning a line of equipment designed to be used in the Renegade System of training. A new hurdle design is ready to sell and several other pieces are in development.

The team mantra and inspirational poem maninglass.com forever holds true in my daily life.”

The Man in the Glass
When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day.
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what the man has to say.
For it isn’t your mother, father or spouse
Whose judgment upon you must pass
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.
You may be like Jack Horner and chisel a plum
And think you’re a wonderful guy.
But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look him straight in the eye.
He’s the fellow to please – never mind all the rest.
For he’s with you clear to the end.
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the man in the glass is your friend
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass.
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you’ve cheated the man in the glass.

Steven Anthony Barlow

STEVEN ANTHONY BARLOW
West Yorkshire, UK | OCTAVIUS123AD@aol.com

Background: I have been training for 21 years and during that time I have experienced just about everything you could imagine from the biggest highs to the lowest lows. From winning bodybuilding trophies to significant health & life impacting issues. During that time I have forgotten how many training principles I have experimented with, as being an individual that believes you must first try something yourself before recommending it to others and always give everything a fair go before making any assessment. You could say I like to experiment.

I am a firm believer that you should not judge a book by its cover as is the current trend of the fitness industry these days with its well oiled & well posed models. Having had a past in bodybuilding and having to attain a certain *look* to fit the bill or be taken seriously as a source of information you can easily understand my disdain for such a narrow minded viewpoint within the industry in general & how it stifles true experiences & knowledge.

Renegade Experiences: I first became aware of Renegade Training through purchasing *Pink it’s the new black* DVD to help with some hip & spinal misalignments I had through improper training practices & my work in everyday life. This then coupled with *Core Couture* have had a massively positive impact on not only my training (at one point I couldn’t train lower body for over 8 months yet my 1rm on back squats didn’t drop a single pound in weight even though I had lost bodyweight myself) but also by general wellbeing on a day to day basis. These 2 programs I use daily as the corner stone of my own training.

Loves: In a nutshell I just love to train & to train with anything and everything no matter what it maybe, I will give everything a go once.

Future: To be competitive once again in a number of fields, to be better at 40 (when I get there) than I were at 20. To pass on my own knowledge & experiences to others so that they can bypass all the pitfalls that I encounted on my own training journey(s), so reach their true potential & not fall by the wayside like so many do. To bring back ethics, pride & heritage to the grassroots of all sports as it is something surely missing in the modern game(s).

Marc Hordon a trainer in Boston, MA, 26 years old, graduated from Harvard University in 2006. As a former athlete in high school and college, he specializes in sport specific training, but is also a highly skilled trainer, generating goal specific regimens for each client. Having recovered from several injuries in his collegiate career, Marc is highly motivated to be healthy and in shape for his continued pursuit of playing baseball professionally. After threee surgeries in four years, Marc is even more determined than ever to stay healthy. Using Renegade Training he has been injury free for over three years and was the 2007 MVP of The Yawkey League, a Semi-Pro baseball league in Boston.  He looks to pass his inspiration on to his clients through providing encouragement and compassion through his personal training. He loves people, he loves health, and above all he loves helping others.

I do have a question. So I have been doing LPS pretty much every day since the workshop and my knees have been crackin like crazy.  They have cracked a little bit in the past when I crouched down, but this is like a Fourth of July Grand Finale in my knees.  There isn't much pain, but sometimes there is. I have been trying to make sure that my feet are pointing straight foward and are in close with my knees in a straight line.  Is this just cause all of my ligaments are used to a different pattern of motion?

On another note.  I really think that the entire Renegade approach to life is like nothing else in the field of fitness AND philosophical approach to life.  I wonder if there is something that I could do to get John a bigger and broader soap box.  His message and his charimatic and gentle approach could change the entire industry. I know it.  Anything I can do.  Has he thought about putting a Renegade Training Center in Boston?

Thanks again for opening my eyes to world of Renegade.  The impact that it has had on my life 18 months before I even knew of John or yourself was remarkable and after this weekend everything clicked, and I began to understand the entire process on a physiologcical level.  So, thank you.  For someone who identifies as an elite level athlete, having these workouts, connecting me back to the year round athleticism that I was accustomed before my shoulder problems, this has been the freshest breath of air I have had in years.

PAUL GENUALDO (GENO)

renegade kettlebell specialist

Paul (or Geno, if you please) is a 9 year veteran of the Fort Worth Police Department, where he currently serves as a physical fitness and defensive tactics instructor in the Training Division. His interest in physical training began in the Army, where he quickly learned that fitness was the key to survivability in the real world.

After moving on to the field of law enforcement, Geno observed that while fitness was a priority among new recruits, it was much less of a priority among incumbent officers. After experimenting with a number of fitness programs himself, and finding that the typical “bodybuilding” style plans did not meet his needs, Geno began searching for a program that would help him develop the kind of “real world” fitness he was seeking.

Enter Renegade Training, and Coach John Davies. After trying it for himself, Geno became a staunch proponent of the Renegade system, and has remained so for the last two years. He attended the most recent Renegade Certification, and is proud to be one of the newest additions to the team.

He looks forward to training anyone seeking personal wellness, athletic enhancement or that crucial edge in survivability.

J. Greg Johnston (JJ), is a life-long athletic enthusiast who owns and operates Coast Right, LLC, an athletic training organization out of his home state of Delaware. JJ has experience playing many sports and continually trains to be an active participant in all types of physical challenges.

JJ’s current sport of choice is Professional Wrestling. He held multiple championship titles, both individual and tag-team while working for WWE, ECWA, PCW and other independent wrestling organizations. He has been ranked globally as an Independent Wrestler and has been featured in several wrestling publications.

After a severe auto accident causing neck and back injuries, JJ was forced to leave the spotlight of wrestling and search for an alternate rehabilitation method. Simple stretches, limited mobility and sitting still weren’t conducive to the champ’s lifestyle. Once finding the Renegade camp and learning what his body really needed, JJ immediately jumped on board. Renegade is currently enabling his comeback tour to wrestling!

When not in the gym, building his 4x4 monster trucks, watching football or running his business, JJ can be found on the east coast surfing any available breaks. Since joining the Renegade camp, JJ has also taken up “concrete cruising” and has learned the art of tumbling down a skate ramp with finesse. In his constant quest of thrill seeking, JJ keeps the “Renegade Creed” by his side and preaches it to all that gaze in amazement and marvel at his feats.
